Zima vows to down tools until ZHDA president found

THE Zimbabwe Medical Association (Zima) on Tuesday confirmed that Peter Magombeyi, Zimbabwe Hospitals Doctors’ Association (ZHDA) president has not yet been found, 48 hours following reports of his abduction.

Magombeyi was allegedly abducted on Saturday evening around 22:00hours by some unidentified armed men, prompting doctors from various institutions to down tools.

According to the petition, the doctors indicated that they had withdrawn their services  and could only resume work upon return of Magomeyi .

In a statement released today by Zima, the medical board’s National Executive Council has confirmed that  Magombeyi  remained missing and unaccounted for, 48 hours after his abduction, adding that it was now concerned  about his life.

“Sadly, Dr Magombeyi remains missing and unaccountable for more than 48 hours. Zima, through its taskforce on the matter, has had meetings with other concerned stakeholders.

Zima said it would continue to push for Magombeyi’s release with help from and  senior government doctors.

Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered the release of Magombeyi within the next 48 hours, directing the Home Affairs and State security ministers to ensure his release within that time frame.
