The South African Police Service (SAPS) has warned the public against the unauthorised and illegal use of SAPS property.
This came after a video of a man driving a marked police car while donning a SAPS cap went viral on social media.
The man, who is thought to be an illegal immigrant from Zimbabwe, can be seen chuckling inside the car while conversing with another man in the footage.
The individual violated the South African Police Service Act, which forbids citizens from using SAPS uniforms, equipment, and emblems without authorization, according to police spokesman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
In light of this, Mathe stated in a statement on Thursday that the civilian had violated Sections 66(1), 68(1), and 68(3) of the SAPS Act by donning the agency’s symbols and insignia.
