MASVINGO Provincial affairs minister Ezra Chadzamira, remains in the eye of a storm, amid indication that he faces more corruption related charges that include looting assets at Cold Storage Commission (CSC) when the company went under, Zim Morning Post can report.
On Monday Chadzamira was picked up by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) on allegations of corruption involving sugarcane plots at Kilimanjaro in Chiredzi. He was taken to Masvingo Magistrates Court for a hearing.
Insiders told Zim Morning Post that an unorthodox instruction was later made by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to Zacc leading to his release.
This comes as there has been pressure from Zacc to be granted prosecuting powers amid reports that the NPA is standing in the way of several high-profile cases.
Chadzamira appears not off the hook and is now further implicated in a syndicate that is alleged to have looted assets at Cold Storage Commission (CSC) when the company went under.
Chadzamira and his accomplices are said to have taken control of CSC assets and illegally shared the loot with former employees, show allegations contained in auditor general Mildred Chiri’s latest report.
Sources who spoke to Zim Morning Post alleged that Chadzamira abused his influence and power in Masvingo province to acquire properties belonging to CSC without following due process.
The sources further revealed that Chadzamira allegedly depleted CSC’s herd by clandestinely buying cattle without following due procedure.
He is also accused of extending his farm boundary into CSC’s Masvingo ranch on the pretext that they were neighbours.
“Allegations are that there was an unsanctioned auction which was held at CSC and Chadzamira bought more than one hundred cattle belonging to CSC. He is accused of participating in the auction alone,” reviewed a well-placed source.
“Using his power and influence at the land office he encroached into CSC land ,” added the source
Sources at ZACC say that these are some of the issues which are being investigated by the anti-corruption body.
Chadzamira is also accused of being part of those frustrating the new CSC partner Boustead Beef Zimbabwe as he is implicated in various corruption allegations around CSC Masvingo.
Chadzamira and Masvingo land officer Tendai Mumera were also accused of clandestinely playing a role in granting 99-year lease offer letter that was issued and signed by the minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Anxious Masuka to a fugitive who skipped the country 14 years.
According to a copy of the offer letter signed by Masuka on December 11, 2020, gleaned by Zim Morning Post, Bornface Naison was granted Subdivision 27 of the Hippo Valley North dry land measuring 60 hectares despite having been holed up in South Africa since 2007 after skipping bail in a serious criminal case in which he was accused of vandalising TelOne copper cables.
In a letter dated January 21, 2021, the two allegedly delayed allocating them a piece of land in Hippo Valley North measuring 2385 hectares which they had identified and was approved by the then Lands minister Perrance Shiri (now late).
Chadzamira could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone went unanswered. He also did not respond to questions related to him.
